Dear friends,

I’m planning to buy Samsung 2233RZ with Nvidia 3D kit but since I never got any chance to watch any 3D movie or game – I would like all of you to help me to understand about this technology.

Is it a right choice to go for 3D monitor or shall I buy a normal LCD 22” monitor.

Mostly I’m playing games and watching movies.

Sys Spec are CPU is Q6600 mobo Asus P5Q with Nvidia 8800GT 4GB RAM

Thanks.

I see you've got an 8800GT. You'll need a lot of grunt to run modern games in stereoscopic 3D: Since it is rendering two perspectives for every frame you'll find framerates dropping, upto half in some cases.

If you don't play really modern games and those that you do always run great on your kit then the framerate hit probably won't be too painful but it'd suck to spend £££ on the kit only to be then forced into a GPU upgrade. I say this as a 3D Vision user running an 8800GTX at a 1280x720, a lower res than that monitor. Games such as GTA IV run well in 2D and 'acceptably' in 3D albeit with details set to medium but I wouldn't dare try a recent top title.

I would personally grab a pair of those paper red/blue 3D glasses for a quid off ebay and try 3D Vision Discover using your current monitor set to the the same resolution as the 2233RZ and see how your favourite games run. If you're happy with that then consider some actual 3D kit :)

I can't vouch for any particular 3D monitor but be aware that some of the 120Hz TFTs are affected by ghosting, where the left image hasn't completely faded as the right glasses shutter opens and vice-versa. There's a discussion of it here on the 3DVision blog. The solution, of course, is to buy a 3DVision DLP projector :p

ok
then i'm going to upgrade my RAM from 4GB DDR2 to 8GB DDR3
regarding GPU - i was checking few graph here:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/2977/n...th-the-wait-/9
and little bit confused where to go now.

rest of my PSU is already 750WATT and i think i don't have to upgrade it for 3D
coming to the 3D monitors - again i'm not sure about samsung vs acer - what i can understand, samsung is good in lcd screens but still i'll listen to u guys before taking any final decision.

so far its confirm that:
- i need to upgrade RAM
- GPU to be upgraded but what should i buy? GTX 470 or 480 or 270 or 275 or 280 etc
- 3D monitor is big question, then

thanks for your help and i'm sure i'll get my reply shortly.
(since crysis 2 might be using 3D tech, i'd like to upgrade my spec for it before it hit the shelfs)

thanx

i got a setup about a month ago imo the best monitor is the acer 245hq, bit of ghosting but theres plenty of fine tuning to get rid of it, i would only do it if your going to play games mainy in 3d and you can play for a long time with the side effects , which luckily i do not suffer from ( headaches eye strain etc)

if its for movies save your cash for a proper 40" 3d tv

Hi there,

Do you think you need more RAM for what you are doing, do you often come close to using all 4GB up? I ask, because RAM is very expensive at the minute (£100 for 4GB) and for HD movies and gaming (even in 3D) does not come close to using 4GB of RAM. Also, 4GB DDR2 to 8GB DDR3? Do you have a board that can support both or are you planning on replacing your motherboard?

Would you be able to repost the anadtech link? it doesn't work for me.

Do you know what the brand and model name/number of your PSU is? If is a decent brand, they you will be absolutely fine with a 750W unit, but if it is a generic unit then thing are not so certain.

If you definitely want to go down the 3D gaming path, I suggest getting a GTX 470 at a minimum. As sean mentions, 3D gaming is really GPU intensive and will need something of at least this power to run modern games in 3D at decent resolutions and playable framerates.

oh and 1 last think if you want to watch 3d blu ray theres no pc monitor atm that supports 1.4 hdmi , the only way you can view it is through a dvi-d, but i bet new models will appear later in the year to totally do away with dvi-d as hdmi 1.4 will give you everything and as the screens are 1080p will be 100% compatible with external 1.4 spec blu ray players, keep your eye out for 3d 1.4 spec monitors if you aint in a rush.

ohhh BTW 1 more help -can i use 470 on Asus P5Q mobo

i'm using thermaltake 750WATT

about RAM i'm having issue when sometime it goes to 95% esecially when i'm opening lot of IE tabs in IE8 - like very simple example is, when i'm playing farmville ;) on facebook - if i leave full screen mode on for sometime then memory goes high - and PC hung or dead slow - then solution that time is to RE-BOOT (donno it might b some other reason)

I'm not regular gamer - but interested in very few of old/lastest games, like:
MOH COD GTA & Crysis
I think i really need a advance GPU and for that I'm planning to go for nVidia 470 bcoz 480 is little bit out of range.
i'll be getting it (470) soon and will buy 3D kit & LCD 3D monitor when Crysis 2 is about to release.

thanks for ur help.

MWVirk

thnx for ur support.
now finally its clear that Q6600 will not be suitable for 3D
so can i replace my Q6600 CPU with:
INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9400 2.66GHZ (6MB CACHE - 1333MHZ FSB)
and is it working on Asus P5Q mobo
and same time can i change my RAM DDR2 to DDR3 with new CPU but on same mobo (Asus P5Q)
and can I replace my 8800GT to:
GTX470 GeForce PCX 1280MB (320-BITS) DDR5 EVGA

so final configuration will be:
Mobo: Asus P5Q
PSU: Thermaltake 750Watt
CPU: INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9400 2.66GHZ (6MB CACHE - 1333MHZ FSB)
GPU: GTX470 GeForce PCX 1280MB (320-BITS) DDR5 EVGA
RAM: DDR3 (4GB) (((help me what brand and bus speed is auitable for this config now - if not P5Q then what mobo to replace)))

and after that, is it ready for 3D ???

thanks again.

Pointless changing your Q6600 for the Q9400, just buy a decent cooler and overclock the cpu you've already got.

The P5Q is a DDR2 motherboard so just get a decent 2x2GB kit of DDR2 memory.

The GTX 470 will be good for the Samsung 2233RZs resolution of 1680x1050 with 3d vision on, but will struggle @ the Acers 1920x1080 resolution, I'd recommend a GTX 480 if you did want the Acer.

Is that 22in monitor worth it? The resolution is not even 1080.

Why don't you look at the Asus 23in? It already comes with the 3D NVIDIA glasses and everything.

I managed to fix the ghosting on the 245hq with OD on regardless of settings. I no longer turn it off anymore, its on all the time.

If anybody wants to know how give me a shout.
