3D monitor

After seeing some 3D laptops & TV's at some high street shops it's made me want one really bad!

I was looking to buy a 3D TV but realised I rarely watch a normal TV. I have a 24 inch HD monitor in my room (which is really small, about 3.5 x 3.5 meters).

So I was thinking about buying a 24 inch 3D monitor. I was willing to spend up to £1000 on a TV so my monitor budget is fairly high.

So does anyone know of any good 3D monitors? and also some 3D glasses. I've been told that I can use the cheaper £60 glasses instead of the expensive £100 shutter glasses, is this true?

Hi there,

First thing, may I ask what kind of 3D content you plan on playing? If it is mainly Blu-ray 3D off a PC and PC games in 3D - then a 3D monitor would be a great choice and save you a lot of money compared to a TV (this monitor is a nice one).

However, current generation 3D PC monitors don't accept HDMI v1.4 signals and all the signalling and synchronisation is done by the PC - so using stand-alone Blu-ray 3D players or 3D-enabled games consoles will not work with these monitors.

That said, I believe a new generation of 3D monitors are expected to be available soon which do accept HDMI 1.4 and do the signalling on the monitor (much like 3DTVs)- so they will work with HDMI 1.4 3D devices. I would strongly suggest keeping an eye out for these.

As for the cheaper glasses, I believe that by far the best implementation of 3D at the moment on the PC is nvidia - as this technology uses shutter glasses.
