3D performance has improved a lot

What's your driver version? I'm using 285.xx - the last WHQL drivers. In wow I do notice a frame rate drop. But it could've been the 60Hz VESA signal in 3D mode as opposed to the 120Hz for non-3D. I think a measure of minimum framerates ought to clear this up.

I am using 290.53 in drivers and this is the first time I have used FRAPS so not sure what the minimum was. I kept a close eye on the top left as I played through the same track (Norway) and remembered what the minimum I saw was.

Yes, but you mention that you reduced the settings before trying the game again in 3D. Have you tried maintaining the same high settings in both 2D and 3D and then see what the framerate difference in FRAPS is?

I said my plan was to turn on 3D then reduce settings as needed, however I didnt need to reduce any as 3D didn't take as much of a hit as I thought it would.

I just loaded up Dirt 3, as BF3 would not start, because I couldn't sign in....Anyways in 2D, with FRAPS I was getting average 85-90 FPS and with FRAPS, in 3D, I was getting average 41-45 FPS. So it would seem that it is halved and using basic math overall is only a couple of frames down.
Hope this helps Andi :)

That's good to know.
I posted the same thread in the 3D forums on Nvidia's website and one of the replies mentions that it can often be how the game engine works. Some engines cater for 3D vision & dont render a lot of things twice that only need to be rendered once (shadows for example). It seems some games will not have much of an FPS hit at all while others will. Some games are often CPU limited (not designed for multi core) or memory limited so these wont see a hit either as they are already limited before hand.
