Heya all. Could use some advice! Want to 3d print a carraige in OO scale for my layout; whats the best solution? Have the .stl file (its from cults3d) for a royal saloon 396.
ive been looking into 3d printing for similar reasons....
i say similar im kinda really interested in one day building a large t gauge layout [1:450 scale so 1/6th the size of oo]
its a very diy oriented scale id be working at so almost entirely custom/diy as its not very supported by any real
major manufacturers. theres stl files available for a fair bit of what id want to do luckily. unlikely il get anywhere
near ready to do anything for many years if ever at all but im still interested so will be following this thread.
theres a uk based seller who sells all the stuff called tgauge .com i think lol but yeah the main manufacturer is in japan yeah
they do a class 43 set which you can get in a few different liveries ive got some vinyl overlays for some emu i cant even remember what now lol
itl be something southern based as i was intending to do a layout based roughly in the hampshire/dorset are so itl be something that would
have most likely been south west main line il open the box at some point and try find them lol
Vapour smoothing will only work on ABS/ASA. If that's been printed in something else then it won't work.
It feels like this might be more suited to a resin printer. I have a friend who uses a resin printer to make table top models and scenes for board games. He's made various trucks and cars and things at this kind of scale and they look great.
I have seen that it's possible to get resin quality and detail from FDM using 0.2mm nozzles and a 0.08mm print profiles or similar. At that detail level, the print times can get pretty extensive but the end result for miniatures is very impressive and appear to require little to no post processing bar painting....but perhaps some of that is the models that are being printed? I have a 0.2mm nozzle on my X1C and it does do well with high detail and tiny almost imperceptible layer lines
