Some advice please.

Recently my favourite 3d program (bryce5) has been crashing while loading some big textures.

Is this due to my odd memory set up? :(

Im using geil sticks. Slot 1 & 3 512mb and slots 2 & 4 1gb

These at 3.4.4.7

I dont overclock so what ever helps is good but as i do a lot of 3d rendering with 200-500mb scenes this usually require between 500 and 1.5Gb just to load.

thanks!

You need to check out your system stability mate.

First run Prime95s "Blend" torture test for a good few hours (12 if you can have it going for that long).

The you need to run memtest86+ for an hour or so to see if you're getting memory errors.

I'd advocate using Small FFT and Large FFT instead of blend. I find one is usually less stable than the other and if it's Large FFT, it points to RAM / memory controller (if AMD64) whereas Small FFT errors point to CPU / memory controller (AMD64).

fft? eh? Sorry you lost me :o

My little X2 is usually on 24/7 for 3-4 days reboot then back on again. i originally only had my 1gb of geail running at 400Mhz but as i added a further 2gb that run slower im thinking my timings would have something to do with it.

im still running at dual400 with a latency of 71ns according to everest. Slow i guess.
