part of the quote states

"While 3DR is a much smaller studio now, we will continue to operate as a company and continue to license and co-create games based upon the Duke Nukem franchise," it said in a release.

So whats that mean for DNF? They don't seem to reference if its still going to appear at some point or not :(

Greatest marketing ploy ever unfolding in front of our very eyes?

Not sure, the statement does say the dnf team were released, so i don't know what that means for the actual game. If it'll just be canned permanently or work will continue.

If it's made, it will be made by another developer, whilst 3D Realms cash in on the license fee. I don't see why you're still hooked onto this game, it has cheesy lines and a few topless women, other than that it will be another average first person shooter.

Cool, when did you get to play it?

AFAIK the current 3DR team works on hand held platforms and is working to bring Duke to them due mainly in part to reduced development costs.

Exactly!

Id just like to see the damn thing finally hit store shelves. Nothing to do with being "hooked" to it

DNF will never surface. All that quote in the OP states is that games based on the DN franchise will be created (not released, but created).

Cushy job though, getting to mess around with game development, but not having to worry if its never good enough for release.

Well if there going to be took to court for 12million for not making the game i would proberly carry on making it also

They defended themselves by saying the only publishing money they got was from a deal way back ages ago only totalling 300k or something. It's in that other thread quoted but don't know how true the details are.

Duke 3d was much more than that. Realistic levels (the nearest competition at the time was Quake), memorable enemys and unique weapons, extreme violence and tounge in cheek humour along with interactive environments and great level design. If the sequel is half as innovative as this was back in its day the game will be a huge success.

Disregarding the fact that telling everyone your company has/is going bust is not exactly the best marketing trick in the book, I'm sure the SEC would have something to say about any company making this kind of announcement flippantly.
