Hey i was wondering if any of you lovely people could help me out.

Im currently running an

e6600 C2D @ stock
2 gig ram
Asus p5n-e sli
BFG 9600gt

Yes, very outdated...been a while. Studying a few Maya units in uni, i've noticed that she's struggling...a lot! Especially with fluids and particle renders...and even preview simulations.

So....upgrade time!

I'm gonna aim fairly high, may as well make it future proof. Been looking at the i7 OC bundles on here, mainly the 860 with 8gig ram...which has now duisappeared?

Due to this magical act, ive started to think whether that would've been the best choice anyway. I thought the 4/8/12 gig ram would be better suited for rendering than the 3/6/9 Ram available for the 920.... as Maya can metaphorically rape RAM when rendering.. as expected.

So now that that 860 bundle has gone... i'm not sure what to go for!

I'm not bothered about a new gfx card, as this upgrade is to help with uni work...

So, suggestions anyone please?

I'm after

CPU
MOBO
RAM
any necessary Coolers.

For under £600

I have a corsair 520w PSU, will this be ok ?

Thanks in advance guys!

I think its worth paying the extra money if you don't wanna overclock yourself and don't know how.Plus you'll get a better cooler as well.

Yeah thats what i'm thinking, i kind of know how, but not enough to blow the cost of an i7 on getting it wrong!

Is there actually a cooler in the bundle? there is in the photo, but not in the description?

This Bundle contains the following components:

1 X Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz!
1 X Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
1 X Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (TR3X6G1600C9)
1 X Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)

hmmm

hmm i wonder if any bundle is going to come on offer on wednesday? if any OCUK staff would like enlighten me i'd be very greatful :D

thanks for the help guys, think im gonna pretty much buy that bundle, but individually, clock it myself, but use the stock cooler, and save a bit of cash! im a cheapskate student yes! :)

Hey mate you should go with the non overclocked way that's cheaper because overclocking a i7 is kids play it truly is easy and there are 100s of tutorials on how to do it.

And the i7 way is the best way at the moment and maybe get more ram down the line, if you look in maya settings cant you turn turn ram usage up to make rendering quicker?

I've already ordered it all, and have done exactly that! :)
