hi there, i have a question...........

i just built a pc which i mainly use for my digital art work and watching movies. im looking to get a new monitor but wasnt sure what to get. my monitor which i have now is a LG flatron w2243s. yes its quite old haha! but it had done me well :)

i would like to go HD but was also thinking of going cinema 3D too,but im struggling to find a 3D pc monitor.
i did try a 32 in hd tv on my pc and it didnt work too well. it wasnt no where near as sharp as my pc monitor and was hurting my eyes. the hdtv was kind of old so was wondering would a newer hd tv be the same?

seems easier to find a hd 2dtv than it does to find a 3d pc monitor. :( just didnt was to buy a 3d hdtv and find out that was blurry too

many thanks, hope someone can help me

simon

1) HDTVs will have higher input lag, especially in 3D mode. So 3D gaming is of very limited enjoyment. But movies should be fine.
2) On PC side, 3D has pretty much died, and TV side will probably soon follow (https://www.cnet.com/news/shambling-corpse-of-3d-tv-finally-falls-down-dead/). VR is breathing some extra wind to the sails, but remains to be seen whether it takes off, or burns slowly and withers off.
3) Considering it's an old 32" HDTV, it was probably just HD-ready, and thus 1280x720 resolution forcefully shoved into 1366x768 resolution, making it a blurry mess. Try googling "1366x768 hdtv wtf", etc. if you want more details. 1920x1080 (and 4k) is from another world, entirely.
4) Another reason for blurriness is all the extra features and "enhancements" on the TV. They use gimicky tricks to make the image seem more punchy and contrasty, etc., but in practical sense, they only deteriorate and alter the original image. If you're gonna use a HDTV with a PC, it is recommended to turn off most of these enhancements, and calibrate the image after that (try http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/, for example). But on average, they will always be of inferior image quality to a monitor of similar specs.
5) Don't be fooled by TVs' refresh rate claims. Great majority of them will only accept 60Hz signal. Rest is just motion interpolation and/or marketing.

LG's DM27 series would have been a good option for you, but they don't apparently make them, anymore. They were 27" 3DTV/monitor hybrids. And according to the CNET article, 3D is indeed winding down again. But don't worry, it will pop back in another 10-15 years. (yes, it really is quite a periodical fad - major waves in every ~20 years, smaller waves in every ~10 years, always lasting ~3-5 years)

hi there, first of all thank you very much for them info. i wasnt sure if i would get a reply haha.. yes i did think the tv must just be hd ready.

i have seen some of the old lg 3d monitors on ebay but when looking at reviews , the reviews were from around 2011 :( and they were smaller monitors like 23 or 24 inch.

oh well i guess ill just have to get a regular 27 hd one lol

thanks again!!!
