I have a Lian Li x500 case..not sure if the 690 will fit..hmm

You may! i did some reading based on your recommendation and can see that price/performance is better for the 670s but there are cons - such as power consumption, heat, overclocking overheads and some issues with unexplained lag...for the extra 20% or so..i would rather get the 690, knowing that i can upgrade to quad SLI in the future..

the funny thing is - i was planning on getting a macbook retina with a screen and it was more expensive than the rig mentioned.
