I got my new Benq screen yesterday, I will be getting a 680 in about 3 weeks when i have the cash spare. But what i want to know from people who have 3d vision, is it worth the extra money for the glasses and kit?

I play at 1920x1080 on a XL2410T, a 680 maybe a little over the top but i want to future proof a little. Ive been stuck in the rut of buying the latest and greatest gpu to release over the years amd want to chill out with the money spending and get a card that will last 2 years or more.

Will 3d vision make games better? Bf3, wow, CoD and a few other older games is all i play, and some movie watching via hdmi to my tv.

+1 from me. Without it I may well have sold my PC. Really adds to certain games and the fact you can take it or leave it (unlike triple screens and other fads) just makes it even better IMO.

Nvidia's kit is just an active one. You don't have to buy theirs. You can also crack 3dvision to work on any passive screen by using an over ride driver.

Having only just got into 3D myself with my new Samsung monitor I am very impressed. Seems to work better by being a bit further back from the screen than normal and also when the light in the room is less.

However, I have tried Skyrim which looks fantastic especially when you scroll out to see you're own character. BF3 looks good but to be onset think fps games may be better played in 2D due to the crosshairs. Now just started playing Trine 2 with its own option of 3D and omg it looks fantastic in 3D, everyone should at least try the demo just to see the game in 3D. With all the greens of forest it looks like a hologram and some stuff even pops out of the screen...very impressive.

i love the 3D, havnt watched any movies on it etc but i found it hard to play games with it on, i.e to be accurate and such for shooters, but thats just me XD, i mean its cheaper now might aswell go for it :P

Question about this 3D stuff.

Say I have a monitor that supports nvidia's 3D vision (one of the first 120hz monitors), will I get the increased performance of nvidia vision 2, or do I need a specific nvidia vision 2 monitor for that? Basically, should I get the 1st or 2nd kit released?

I'm thinking of going to nvidia see (got a 5870 atm), and might as well make full use of my monitor if i do go that route.

It can be distracting IMO. Games like Fallout which have VATS are easy enough as you can enable the lazer sights and disable the on screen crosshair. Left 4 Dead is also very good with the lazer sights.

you need a 3D vision 2 monitor like the Asus VG278H. This I use and love it. Games are realy bright and clear. I can't comment on the old 3D vision as I never tried it though.

3D gaming/Films are superb IMO.

The old one kinda sucks. My friend has an Acer and he said the glasses kit (3dv1) is very dark so he is looking to buy 3dv2 glasses. Thankfully they do work with the old transmitter though.

Also, not sure if any one has mentioned it but you do need a lot of GPU power to play games in 3d.

You can pick up my screen for £140 delivered now with two sets of passive glasses (though they do leave a lot to be desired) and with the over ride you can be all set.

I'm waiting on the Zalman clip on glasses to come back in stock as they eliminate the ghosting I get with the rubbish LG ones.

Ghosting is mentioned a fair bit with 3D but I am yet to see it. The 3D vision 2 glasses work with the old transmitter but they will not improve the darkness. They are just bigger and comfier.

As for GPU power, I could play all my games (BF3/Skyrim/Dirt3) happily but it was at a cost of a couple of FPS. The 560ti coped quite well though, which surprised me. The 680 though is far far superior and does not struggle in areas like the 560 did.

I doubt you would get ghosting on active 3d tbh. It works differently.

With passive it basically takes two images and separates them to create the depth, like this.

So basically as you increase the depth the images separate more. That is why passive can ghost. It's usually around the edges of things like ceiling strip lights.

However, I have heard that my monitor actually ships with the wrong glasses. They are for a LG TV. I heard that the Zalman Trimon glasses (polarised passive) take care of that though and they are only a tenner so I ordered a set about 10 mins ago :)

Either way ghosting isn't a problem in action packed games as you simply don't have the time to focus on it. If you stop and stare at things it is there, but when you are fighting for your life in L4D2 it becomes a non issue :D

Oh, so using the v2 glasses on my v1 monitor would be pointless? Prob won't venture into the world of 3D if that's the case then :( My monitor is fine as is, no need to upgrade just for better 3D.

No because it's not a monitor problem.

Nvidia glasses are active glasses. The 3d method works by shutting LCD shutters in front of your eyes and then opening them.

V1 glasses are not very translucent so they darken everything kind of like sunglasses. You could get around it a bit by cranking on the brightness on your monitor but then you have to put it back every time you are done gaming.

V2 glasses improve on this by being more transparent as a whole. This allows more light to get through to your eyes. That's pretty much it tbh, so I don't see why you would ever need to replace your monitor unless it was no good to begin with.

I've jumped in and tried 3D since i was upgrading anyway so i got a new 3D asus monitor and new system and tried the odd game like call of duty 3, world of craft and The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim so far all have made me feel sick.
I think its like being car sick but i don't get car sick so not sure, maybe i'm to near to the screen when playing, i don't know. But the 3D in games is very nice if u can stand feeling sick and it doesn't stop as soon as you stop playing and exit game, it last for hours.

This is a problem people get and even some get it in fast paced games without 3D.

Best way is to try 3D before you buy or use the 7 day long distance selling regulations.

Never seen ghosting on active 3D. That is assuming you don't turn the convergence up so high that your brain can't composite both the images your eyes are seeing. But that's not ghosting. It's you being a ****. :P

It's worth it for WoW. It's worth it for all blizzard games. But i wouldn't recommend it for competitive online play. (except for maybe in WoW). e.g. i turn it off in multiplayer starcraft 2, but it is AMAZING in starcraft. I intend to use it extensively for D3, and from what I hear from users who've tried it, Diablo 3 is the best game for 3D.

Agreed.

The extra brightness in the V2 is very bright. I am not sure if that is it as I did hear there is brighter tubes working or something similar.

The good thing is, as soon as you stop 3D, it goes back to normal brightness. No need to faff about with the settings.

Maybe I will have to treat myself to Diablo 3 as I have heard from others it is superb in 3D.

Best game for me is still Trine 2....Just wow factor.
