Hi guys

i know this has probably been answered before but can i play world of warcraft in 3D.

i am purchasing a laptop with a 44cm (17.3") 120Hz WideFHD (1920x1080) WLED LCD + NVIDIA 3D Vision Glasses Bundle

so my questions are -

1. can i play WOW in 3D

2. does the current version of WOW support 3D or do i have to buy additional 3D software

3. is the quaility any good

cheers for all the help

If i recall there was a patch that incorporated 3d support last year, nvidia cards, 3d shutter glasses etc. should be doable, let us know how you get along with it, would be interested in this.

Yeah, you can play it in 3d. Its not perfect though, some of the text displayed comes up a bit funny, but the overall feel of it is excellent.

What spec is the laptop? Its unlikely you will get 60fps with detail in 3d mode on even the highest end laptop.

A quick look in the compatibility list shows it rated as excellent with no notes advising to tweak any settings. It should work quite well in 3d, though you might have to check what kind of performance dip you will see if you do play in 3d.

ok guys thanks for the info. the spec laptop im getting is -

Alienware mx17 R3
Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 2670QM (2.20Ghz, 6MB, 4C)
2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 580M
8192MB (4x2GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
750GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive
44cm (17.3") 120Hz WideFHD (1920x1080) WLED LCD + NVIDIA 3D Vision Glasses Bundle
Killer™ Wireless-N 1103 - EUR

was going to go for the MX18 but it would cost £100 more and didnt think there was much more of an improvement on the MX17, as i would buy the same spec except for duel 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560's, plus the screen contrast and brightness is 100 less than the MX17. any thoughts?

The problem i find with WoW in 3D is that when you need to interact with any world objects, items or npcs. The clickable area is not where you see the object, depth adjustment affects that.

£100 more or £1000?!?

Ive ordered the exact same spec as yours.

Do you have to do something special to enable 3D in the game? I switched on the 3D mode on my monitor, but theres no ingame option to select 3D mode and when I start it up its still in 2D.

about £150 more not £1000, but really think the MX17 will be better overall. the reason why its £150 more is because its exactly the same spec apart from having dual GPU's....but like i said the contrast and brightness is lower plus it isnt 3D.

im not sure as i havent had time to investigate it much but from what i have read its a matter of having 3D capablity on your machine, using the galsses then......

from what i gather you can use some 3rd party 3D software or you may be able to enable it within the WOW settings....

if any one knows of the exact way it would be helpful...but i will figure it out as soon as i get the Lappy.
