3dmark 05 - new build score is bad I think??

I have just completed my first selfbuild (pats self on back ;) ). Everything is up and running fine. I do not have any experience of tweaking, overclocking etc

After reading a few threads about benchmarking your shiny new build etc I decided to run 3Dmark05 to see where I was.

The score I got was 5605 which was a bit lower than I thought I'd get

My spec is as follows:

E6300
Gigabyte GA-945P-S3
Gigabyte 7600GT
2MB Kingston Value Ram
HannsG 19" Widescreen DVI

Should I be higher??? If I'm doing something wrong where do I look???

Any help much appreciated

Thing is about 05 is that its reeaaalllyyyy gfx card dependant if Im not mistaken....which is why I only get 5800 :p

You're not mistaken, if I'm not mistaken. :D 7600 GT is holding you back.

Just out of interest, what is the FSB of the motherboard, RAM timings, is the CPU at stock, temp of the GFX card, and most important of all... are you happy to overclock the graphics card a little? ;)

I'm at work  at the moment so I don't know the answer to all of those questions and I can't check.

Come to think of it how do I check the RAM timings & the temp of the Graphics card when I get home:confused:

I would not mind overclocking the graphics card a bit I suppose. Is it easy??

Cheers

Apologies :)

RAM timings: That would be in your BIOS - have an explore, lots of interesting settings.
Graphics card temp: The latest Nvidia Geforce drivers will have something on the NVidia control panel, or you could use the overclocking software I'm about to recommend.

Pretty much. Get 'Rivatuner', and have a play around with that. When you get to the overclocking tab in Rivatuner, select the 3d clocks and increase them slightly (a few percent or so, for core and memory), save, run 3d mark 05, make sure no artifacts (silly wrong coloured triangles or other stuff) note the score, then increase a little, then do it again.

Or look at the overclocking guides on this forum, who probably put it better.

I just downloaded the latest Nvidia Geforce drivers. 91.47 I think. Will install tonight and have a look.

Thanks for the pointers. I've read some other 3Dmark 05 scores and I'm probably getting about the right score for my setup.

Something tells me there ia few horror stories with this Q-Tec brand, yes?

A few? Oooooh yes.
Also commonly known as Crap-tec, Q-Tec is a fine modern piece of demolitions technology. Whilst providing a seemingly innocent and reissuring golden cover, the Q-tec is designed to be able to blow and cause utmost internal damage to any pc at any given time!

Too afraid your computer wont ever go out for insurance purposes? Want to get your friend back for all those times hes had more dramatic machines than you? Want to learn how to sue a company for burning down your house in 5 easy minutes?

Well then, dear consumer, Q-Tec is for you! Buy now, and never feel worried about failure to claim on insurance again!

There's some things money can fix, for everything else - there's Q-Tec.

*batteries, warranties, bandages and safety mechanisms sold seperately where available. If not...well, dont look at us.* Q-Tec are not affiliated with Mastercard, nor will back you up if Mastercard tries to claim any money back from us due to problems caused by our pc components.
