3DMark 05 Vs 06

Why would a card get higher in one than the other>?

eg. i'm comparing 2 cards for laptops, one is better than the other at '05 but loses on '06 :confused:

how am i supposed to tell which one is better?

I would say the one that performs best on 06 is the better one as 06 uses a lot more modern features and things that are much more likely to be used in todays games, HDR for example

06 takes the CPU speed more into account for the overall score?

Not really no.

The higher the 3Dmark06 score, generally the better it will do in games, as games don't ONLY use the GPU, they use the machine as a whole, just like 3dmark06.

but that means they have to find machines with exact cpu and memory setups and only the gfx changes - unpossible

That is the reason why the 3dmark orb exists. configure it to find a system similar to your own and change the gfx card .
