3dmark - bloatware or what ?

So I've got a new graphics card arriving today from our favourite stoke-based haribo retailer as my current one looks to be dying ... and out of curiosity I thought I'd benchmark before and after performance.

I go to look at 3dmark and its a 1 Gig download ??? What the four-letter worded sweary ???? Its a benchmark for gawd's sake ....

I'm just stunned.

download heaven and/or valley instead ?

3d mark takes all of about 5 minutes to download anyway unless you are on dial up

Its not Bloatware. It offers three different tests these days hence the size.

Heaven is good for testing your GPU and that is about it.

The 3dmark programs are much better for testing the CPU and Ram as well as the GPU.

How big were you expecting, the benchmarks are pretty complex and there's 3 of them.

3d mark used to be the defacto but other benchmark progs have stolen a lot of 3d marks thunder these days and rightly so . I used to actually enjoy watching the early 3d mark progs but after 2001 I lost interest a bit

01 is still the most prestigious 3D mark title on HWbot along with 32mb for CPU/RAM.

If you want an all over system work out go for 3D 11 for just GPU Heaven

8 Pack have you tried the new 320.00 drivers for your Titans on 3dmark11, I had a quick go and they look promising.

I am not benching Titans at the mo. Well not multi card anyway. I am assisting manufacturers with the Sharkbay Platform.

Its worth knowing that though. Any better for multi card Firestrike??

3DMark is perfect for stressing your whole PC and seeing how it can cope.

It is still not working for 4 way sli

I have just scored 3083 with 4 Titans running at stock.

A gig seemed just bonkers but having seen it running I understand why its so large. Murphy's law has struck though - seems like the old Gfx card wasn't to blame, it looks like my mobo was dying. Its not working with the old or new cards now - can't even get to the BIOS screen. Today is clearly a double portion of friday 13th Grrrr.

I'm working through the troubleshooting guide from the general hardware forum ... but if I can't get it sorted during tomorrow then I notice the 7.5% april discount is exceptionally good timing. This is a build from 4 years ago and i was hoping to hold out for Haswell to replace it, so its either live with a laptop for a while or use the discount.

Either way its a new mobo + cpu as a minimum - my old system is a 1366 socket.
