hiya guys, I have just installed an 4600 x2 and now it seems that 3mark wants to crash. Not all the time, but enough.
Now i have installed the amd driver, but not the optimizer as i heard that people were having problems with thi slowing there sutems down? What does this optimizer actually do? is it something that i need?

The cpu is recognized etc and when i did get to run 3d 06 i got a score just below 6k for same system as in sig just the new cpu, is that score about right or does it show that there is an issue somewhere?

Cheers

Andy

Hi,

I've been running a dual core opteron for about a year or so and have not had any problems with 3dmark crashing or any of the other general laggy behavior.

I've re-installed a few times and have only added the patches recently. The AMD CPU driver is to enable the reduced power consumption, the optimiser makes sure the CPU doesn't sit in a low power state when there is work to do, hence giving you lag or stutter. There is a Dual core fix from microsoft, I think that was due to slowdowns etc rather than crashes.

Couple of things to consider. The latest GPU drivers can take advantage of multi core CPU's so it may be worth unistalling and reinstalling the video card drivers incase your older driver didn't install properly for multi core

Could be related to memory timing you are using the exact same settings as your previous CPU as the interface is built into the CPU

Have you tried running something like Orthos to stress the memory?

Good luck

I have kept the system the same as when i had a single core cpu installed. For the memory, no i have not tested it, but will do i think as i was planning on clockin this one, so need to get this sorted first.

thanks
