when i try to run 3d mark 06 once i get to the 3rd test i get an error saying
idirect3d9:createdevice failed: invalid call (d3derr_invalidcall)
seen that there are quite a few people with same prob. any ideas?

The only thing I can find is this. But I guess you're not rotating your desktop?

Things to try....

make sure you're not forcing any display settings (rotation, refresh rate etc. just set it all to app managed and defaults)
update chipset/mobo drivers
update gfx drivers
install latest directx update from ms
if you're on Vista run it as admin.

other than that not sure tbh. Google did throw up another result but it's in German and no one answered the guys question.

what's your spec, o/s etc?

edit: and which is the 3rd test? can't remember off hand.

I have a 2900, E6600 and it works ok on XP x64 and Vista x64. Though I can't submit my results on Vista for some reason.

I get that sometimes with a 2900XT as well, I've put it down to some driver issue or program issue with either Catalyst or Futuremark. If you try it again (3dmark) you might get through the whole thing. Alternatively you could try adding "-nosysteminfo" to the end of the shortcut target for 3dmark06, or failing that try browsing to "C:\windows\system32\Futuremark\MSC" and renaming the file in there called "Direcpll.dll" to something like "Direcpll.dll.bak" so it doesn't load.

would this be my cpu or gpu that is causing this?

Somebody on an other forum said that it could be because the graphics card does not have 640x480 in the resolution list so it cannot find the correct res to run the cpu test at.

Could this be the case?
