With the Rig listed in my Sig, I get 2445. Anyone else think this seems a bit low? Not overclocked the gfx card yet, but my 7600gs used to reach a score of 2187 with clocks @ 500/940. The GT is 60/460 Mhz faster respectively. Any ideas to improve it would be great.

C'mon, p4 @ 2.7 ghz? Your cpu score is way too low for a high 3dmark score in 06, u need 3.9 ghz at least, prefferably 4+ to get higher scores, i get :

Main Test Results
3DMark Score 2675 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 1061 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 921 Marks
CPU Score 1953 Marks
with specs in sig ( thats a dualcore cpu),
with my singlecore p4 @ 4.1ghz my cpuscore was CPU Score 1234 Marks

3dmark 06 makes a 3dmark score, from cpuscore, and the 2 gfx scores, not just the gfx tests, if u want more marks, get a core 2 duo or at least a pentium clocked way higher for your current board, and oc it to around 4 ghz.

GS has poorer ram and less shaders otr something, if i renember correctly, either way I doubt ** score would be same.

I thought the 3d mark versions after 2001se is gfx bound. Yes they do test cpu on 2 tests i think but thats about it and doesn't or shouldn't effect the score drastically more than 100 points i think.

Oh and the GS is very poor i would say. The gt is the only good 7600 you can get. The GS has worse hardware compared to a GT.

To be honest ** score is about right.

The CPU can make a very big difference to the final score in 3dmark 05 & 06....
A 8800gtx with a AMD 4400 x2 cpu will score about 8000 to 9000....(3dmark06)
A 8800gtx with a overclocked C2D cpu can score around 12000 to 13000(3dmark06)

Don't know if this has been posted before, but it interesting to see how it works. Put some numbers in and you'll see cards with a no SM3 scores suffer, but the CPU score is quite a small part of the total score. The effect a cpu bottleneck has on the card SM2/SM3 scores at the low default res/settings can be quite high. Its not apparent at high resolution/settings, but I've found at the lower settings my GTX score will scale all the way to at least 3.6GHz with a C2D.

3DMark06 Score calculated with the following formula:

SM2.0 Score = 120 x 0.5 x (SM2 GT1 fps + SM2 GT2 fps)
HDR/SM3.0 Score = 100 x 0.5 x (SM3 GT1 fps + SM3 GT2 fps)
CPU Score = 2500 x Sqrt (CPU1 fps x CPU2 fps)

GS for hardware capable of running all graphics tests = 0.5 x (SM2S + HDRSM3S)
GS for hardware capable of running only SM2.0 graphics tests = 0.75 x SM2S

3DMark Score = 2.5 x 1.0 / ((1.7/GS + 0.3/CPU Score)/2)

There's a useful 06 calculator app here

With my old X2 [email protected] with a X1900XT, I got 6447 with a CPU score of 2147. With my [email protected], I got 7467 with a CPU score of 3223.

Admittedly the card was clocked very slightly higher, but the majority of the difference came from the extra CPU speed!

The GS is very poor compared to the GT, think there is a different memory bus speed and maybe even lower rated memory on some.. Think the GS uses GDDR2 and the GT uses GDDR3!

Your CPU is deffinately letting the side down there. Overclock it some and then see if your score increases. :)

only 1000 points difference from a X2 at 2.8 to a C2D at 3.7Ghz????
I thought the C2D were much faster than that :o I guess the gfx is holding it back

If I clock the 6400 back to 2.8GHz, it gets around 2600-2700ish on CPU score whereas the X2 [email protected] 2147... So clock for clock, it is a lot faster still! Plus 1000 marks when I was only scoring 6500 is still quite a fair leap!

didn't find anything fun to do but got my score up to 2940 :D

School boy error of not setting my slider to 'performance' in the nvidia control panel before setting 'let app decide' it was set to quailty and 'greyed out' which must mean some extra settings and/or tweaks were set quality. Will easily breach 3000 tomorrow. Which is where I more or less expected.
