I've made the unpleasant discovery that my nice new 4850 X2 doesn't rattle up a good 3DMark06 score in XP. It's about 1500 lower on a default run compared to my nice new GTX 260 216 in the same setup. Confirmation is found in the TweakTown review:

So, great scores in 3DMark06 or Vantage in Vista, dismal score in '06 under XP. What's going on there? I find that enabling Crossfire adds very few fps over single 4850 performance; this seems true for UT3 as well as 3DMark. There must be a good reason for this. Any ideas?

Meh, 3DMark is overrated. How many times have you thought "Oh yeah, I just can't wait to play 3DMark?" Games are what matters :)

This, basically.

3DMark 06 is a benchmark. A benchmark is supposed to be indicative of the performance of your hardware. In actual applications the 4850 X2 will beat the GTX260. That makes 3DMark a useless application which gives you an arbitrary number when it's done.

What matters to who? ;)

It's all fun isn't it?

What about those 1/4 mile car nutters? Shall we all go and tell them not to bother and just go driving on normal roads? :)

I've personally had better results in 3d06 in XP than Vista

What AI settings you running in the control panel? Everything on performance?
