3DS MAX 8 Plugins.

I've just got 3DS Max and know nothing about it, but I love graphics and want to get into this more and I'm following some tutorials. However, I do have some questions:
- Can you recomend me good free plugins (i.e light and renders)?
- Can you recomend me good payware plugins?
- I've jsut followed a building tutorial and it asked me to use 'Raytraced' file in the MTL library, but it's not there...just a 3ds max file, Nature and some archtechitecual files (obviously these have materials in them when you select them or maps)...However, I can't find 'raytraced', anyone help me if you know what I'm talking about, lol.
-Also any general tips for a beginner like me?

Thanks.

My favourite payware plugins(And be prepared to pay a lot for some of these) are in no particular order;

Final Render Stage1
Brazil Render
Dreamscape
Absolute Character tools
RTRE
Speedtree

As for the Raytrace material, you might have to change your renderer to Mental ray to see it from what I can remember.

Pricey bit of software to pay out for if you know nothing about it ;)

When you're first learning, just use the tools you have available so you get a raw set of skills, then once you develop look at using plugins to improve your work.

All the plugins kahn recommended are amongst the best of the best though :)

True, but then again it's a hobby - people pay thousands for other types of hobbies or trips abroad - I invest heavily in hobbies and one of those is graphics....the wife isn't happy though!

Hehe I was just pulling your leg :p

Once you get to grips with the basics its pretty easy picking up the rest! Post some of your work when you've done something and then we can give you feedback, always a good way of improving!
