Hi guys, I am trying to use Autodesk's 3ds MAX software this year instead of Maya. One thing that's kept me away from 3ds MAX is that it seems that there are a lot of duplicate or perhaps situation tools, which confuse and frustrate me, slowing down my learning.
When I posed this question to my tutor he explained that, as the developers iterated the software they created better ways for achieving the same or similar effects as existing tools, thus, some methods are more efficient or work for specific situations. He mentioned the Bridge tool could also have been used and suggested working with all the tools in different situations to better understand them.
While I understand his explanation it doesn't give me enough insight into when to use these tools. For example, I understand why you would need to Target Weld vertexes instead of relying on the proximity detection of the standard Weld tool, however, I don't understand the difference in result between the Component Connect and Bridge tools when connecting two objects with holes in the following example.
I can see there are eight less edges produced by the second method (Bridge) but I want to know why would I use either one - Component Connect or Bridge - tool over the other?
