Yes i have been on 3dtotal quite a bit but i cant get to grips with most writen tutorials, I also have a question, When people model things in 3ds max like a car do they use mesh smoothers or are they that good that they can do it all by hand? just wondering because im some tutorials people dont say that they use smoothers, anyway if they do what smoother is the best for things like cars and bodys?

I do use mesh smooth sometimes, but i'd reccomend not to use it when your beginning, as you want to practice creating a great model without the need for mesh smoothing. When I do use it though, I use the Subdivision surface found under the edit poly tools. Remember not to collapse the stack with it on though, otherwise you have to work with loads of polygons. If youve just started, have a look on http://www.3dfoundation.com/ Its my old lecturers site and has a few basic tutuorials to teach you the fundamentals. Practice making simple, low polygon models to start with and don't bite off more than you can chew. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask.

Yea iv been on that site before and found out some cool tricks :D

Also, when i use meshsmooth it seems to make things either really smooth or not smooth enoughi tried to model a simple teddy and it wasnt smooth enough after that i tried to model a hand but it was way to smooth and made it look really wierd.

The problem there is you won't have set the smoothing groups or the weighting on any of the polygons. For learning, i'd keep away from mesh smooth. Do have a look at smoothing groups though, as this doesn't alter the geometry, it instead only altewr the shading to make things appear smooth.

Ok got started on the 3d buzz tutorials and managed to model a alien head in about 3hours :S but it is my first try at something this complex, here are some screen shots.

Any crits welcome :D (i know about the bumps on the head):P
