3DS Multiplayer MK7 - Download Play?

Quick questions guys,

I want to get Mario Kart 7 but only really for multiplayer, and generally it will be with the kids who don't own copies so I gather I can play they using Download Play (albeit only with one character?).

My question is, can I do this with the DLC version of MK7 or do I need to get the physical version? (MK is one of those games I just think should be installed).

Any ideas?

Download version will work exactly the same as the physical version for download play.

Oh, it's not on the eShop, I must have been mistaken about being able to get it digitally :/

Found a site called cdkeys.com - seems a bit dodgy anybody know if it's kocher since it sells games which aren't on the eShop?
