.... this should look more like this...

...as you can see its rendering on top of its self, does any one have any ideas how to stop this???

I'm getting problems with an outdated file as I use 3D Studio Max 10, all I'm seeing is a Camera, and 2 layers (text and underline) which won't render at all (as opposed to incorrectly).

Have you tried remaking the scene, converting your layers to editable polygons and putting a large white plane behind the scene, a simple skylight, light tracer (under advanced lighting) and 1 bounce, rendering again and seeing if you're getting any errors?

apart from the fact that its screwy in 2008 (10 does not exist ) it looks like its down to motion blur, the grey bars are the same as the motion the line is taking (or atleast it looks like it from the preview window)

ok so the problem was that I had set it to only render selected objects. In the top right corner there is a drop down menu it should say view but I set it to selected by mistake. That's caused me litterally days of problems LOL.

Thanks to you guys and those on the autodesk area forums who solved this little mistake.
