We've got a 3ds that needs a new top screen as current one is cracked - black spider's web pattern over image! Anyone got any recommendations of repair services for devices like the 3ds? Seems to be plenty of people advertising repairs when I search on Google at a range of prices - if anyone has had experiences (good or bad!) to help make a choice then that would be very helpful.

Talk directly to nintendo.

Be honest with them on the phone and explain what happened, they charge dependant upon a few factors, but ultimately have the power to reduce out of warranty repair charges or in warranty accidental damage to nothing.

Sent them an email to see what price the might charge .... your comment jogged my memory and I did get a helpful response from them several years ago when my older son's DS suffered a broken hinge during the first year - think initial crack occured when he dropped it but as hinge failure seemed to be common failure at that time then think they did a "repair" (think it looked like the sent returned another DS that they'd already refurbed) for free.

Think in this case the screen crack (actually a crack in one of the inner layers of screen) was caused by other son getting carried away in one of the "Mario and Sonic at the London Olympics" games and "tapping" the wrong screen to get his character to run!

Yeah I wouldn't bother with mailing, calling them is by far the best thing to do.

They literally hear everything imaginable with how stuff gets broken and honestly have the power of god over you with how much they can reduce the standard repair/refurb fees, so being nice and honest is always a great idea.

I don't think many people realise just how much nintendo support can do and how even some of the retro systems are generally covered for repair.
