how do I know if I'm buying a 2014 3ds? I can't see any specifics highlighting this.

The new one has just been released in Japan and Australia, there are 2 versions, and a weird button on the right side above the regular 4 buttons.

Not schedule to be released here until next year.

You can physically see the difference. They have extra buttons and extra analogy stick/nub on the top right.

It's also called the New 3ds and not just 3DS.

Should be very obvious, as above. Not out yet though.
