Hi all.
I’ve just bought a Panasonic 4K 50” Active 3D LED TV that I have connected to my PC via a 4m HDMI 2.0 cable into a GTX960. Currently the PC is the only connection to the TV.
I am new to 3D TV’s and have a few issues that may be normal or may be the TV.
My native resolution is 3840 x 2160 at 60Hz and when I first got the TV I could not get 3D to work. In the TV’s menu all the 3D menu options were greyed out. I even got to the stage after searching for an answer online, that I phoned Panasonic technical support who after various tests and resets advised me that the issue was probably down to the TV not being plugged directly into a Blu-Ray device.
With this in mind I tried a PS3 directly plugged in to the TV via HDMI and sure enough it worked fine but it didn’t use the 5.1 surround speakers connected to my PC’s sound card obviously (The PC was still connected)
By chance I did find the solution that neither Google nor Panasonic seem to know about and I’m kicking myself now, and it kind of works. I was unaware that in the Nvidia control panel there is a tick box to activate Stereoscopic 3D. I just assumed that once I was plugged into a 3D TV using a 3D ready graphics card it should work but nope.
Anyway I say it kind of works. 3D mode changes the resolution to 1920 x 1080 at 24Hz. When you change the resolution you get the box saying do you want to keep this resolution with a 20 second? countdown. I am lucky if I see this. Sometimes it appears first time, another the screen goes black for the full countdown and reverts back, sometimes as many as 20 times.
The problem is all this changing back and forth between resolutions is not only annoying but has adverse effects on my system. My internet browser sometimes appears 10 times larger, desktop icons move all over the place and change size. A simple restart works but again an annoyance.
And then there’s the 3D, when it works it’s amazing but sometimes after having done all of the above steps, set resolution, activated 3D in PowerDvD, nothing happens. Another system restart, turn off stereoscopic 3D, re enable stereoscopic 3D and voila it works again. So much hassle all the time.
So first up is there a way to make this far less troublesome. Am I doing something wrong?
Secondly, if not is there a way to keep my PC connected to the TV with the 5.1 speakers connected to the sound card (Vis Optical cable) but also use the speakers with other HDMI devices like a PS3 or external Blu-Ray player?
Thank you and apologies for the very long post.
Kate.
