Ok, every now and then i google to see what's new regarding a release of a 3g iphone and all i find is stuff from last year. What's the idea in here about if this will happen this year or not?
Basically i want to get an iphone, but my idea is that if i am, i might as well wait for the 3g version.:p

Just a rumour mill, the latest was that there was a reference in the 2.0SDK to an infineon chip which happened to be 3g, but its hardly concrete evidence.

Personally, i am waiting for it (and a decent camera!) because until then offerings from nokia/lg/samsung are leagues ahead.

If iPhonev2 turns up july time with 3g and a 5mp camera with flash i will be all up in that mofo.

Yeah a decent camera is also a good idea, but not high on my list. It comes down for me wanting to be able to use it for business and although i would imagine that its fine currently for what i need i do not want to get one then find a few months later the new 3g version hits the streets. especially at the price that it is:rolleyes:

This is when its annoying that apple are so good at keeping development secrets....

Ah you got in whilst i was typing Will. So what's happening in June? Seen this mentioned a few times over the net, but with no solid reference.

WWDC - World Wide Developers Conference

It is where Apple originally released the iPhone, amongst other things :)

It will happen this year, that's a cert, but June is just what the rumor sites are speculating will be the launch date.

As for the bigger camera.. It's all well and good being 5 Megapixel, but if the optics are the same as the current model then it'd mean jack all.

I'm hoping they bump it to 32GB when it goes 3G, oh, and they ship it with the 2.0 firmware preloaded.

32gb 3g iPhone would be a tad tasty.

My wallet isn't likely to agree but it shall be punished if such product specifications arise.

Sure 32gb would be great, but as someone said above 16gb + 3g and that would be me happy. So the question is when do people see anything happening?...October ish i reckon.

should have posted this in the last messege...:p

Anyway, i have a 5mb camera in my Samsung at the mo and very rarely use it. I dont' have an DSLR, but do have a very good small camera that fits in my pocket that will always take a better pic than any camera phone.
The key for me is the usability of the cool functions that the iphone offers and being able to use them without waiting for ages for the network. Like mapping, email and internet the iphone does all these so well, its just a shame to have these cool apps hindered by slow speeds. And i have no doubt that apple will release other apps that will benefit from the 3g speeds.

I can see this being announced at WWDC, with a release date of "2-3 weeks" after the announcement.

This would line it up squarely with the 2.0 firmware release :D

What are your thoughts on the 'hackability' of 2.0? Is it just a case of 'when' rather than 'if'?

Ill get the current iPhone when the new V2 iPhone comes out, since im guessing the current ones will drop in price when the 3G one appears. Dont have 3G in my area so it doesn't matter to me :)

I've been reading over on macworld - that some people would like to see haptic screens?

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what it entails - but I believe some form of touch feedback? I don't know how the concept would be utilised, if at all - but it does (as mentioned) bring up some useful accessibility ideas. For example a braille keyboard could be a worthwhile application??

Personally, I'd be happy with 32gb + 3g :)
