3Gb - Would this be ok

Running 2x1Gigg of Geil 6400 ram, obviously have 4 ram slots but they are dual slots. If i wanted to say put 3 gig in would runing another 2x512 stcks of ram be ok and run in dual fine with the 1 gig sticks, so overall have 3 gig of geil 6400, or would it be better to just plump for another 2 gigg and have 4 gigg overall.

Im just thinking for the future and after building my C2D machine i dont want to have to upgrade for a while and i have the cash now.

With the current low prices, might as well go the extra and get another 2GB instead.

Yep 3gig will run fine, you can run dual channel with different size 'banks'.

Personally I'd just sit it out with 2gig until you find you need more though, as prices may fall (although memory is one of the few components which can suffer significant short term price increases).

I'm running 2 x 1GB and 2 x 512MB with an E6300 in my second PC. I need to do some serious work under either Virtual PC or VMWare before I install a server in the near future so I wanted plenty of memory for the virtual servers.
