3GS Home Button Fault

Hi all, sometimes the home button doesn't wake my 3GS. Sometimes it wakes it straight away. When using the phone the home button has never failed to respond.

When I upgraded to iOS4 I didn't restore from backup, instead setup fresh.
I am just going through a fresh setup again on the latest firmware with the signal fix.

Is this a known issue and any known fixes?

A clean install didn't help so I removed a few app's and it looks as if the problem has now gone.

I am going to re install the apps one at a time and if the problem returns I have my answer.

The problem still exists. I need to get to the bottom of this as my phone is inside it's warranty by 1 week. Assuming it's the normal year? Is this a known hardware or software fault perhaps. Can't say I noticed the issue pre-ios4.

My home button is getting very weak as well. Double tapping for multitasking is a hit and miss affair atm!

Might go in and see what they can do for me, if they give me a new one it's straight on ebay and i4 time!

95% of the time mine is very responsive, even to light touch. Just sometimes it doesn't do anything which is why it's a bit odd. It's not like over time it's needed a firmer and firmer touch. I'm a bit ill at the moment so will give it a few more days until I go into the apple shop.

I have now noted it being unresponsive whilst using the phone. My warranty runs out on 29th July so better get it in this week!

Make an appointment this week to at least show them the issue... I assume then you've demonstrated it occurred inside the warranty period and if it takes a bit longer to sort it shouldn't be an issue (although in reality I expect they'll just replace it on the spot - make sure you sync it at home before you go in).

Thanks Pete.

Today I reinstalled iOS4 in DFU mode. Left the phone without any of my app's or settings (I have a few email,CalDav and 1 exchange (google contacts) accounts) and I could recreate the problem whilst in the phone's menu system.

Sometimes it will do it a fair few times in the space of 5 mins. Othertimes not at all. Hopefully Apple won't think I am trying it on with the warranty having 5 days left and issue a replacement.

Buy applecare ASAP tbh.

£30 odd off the bay of e and extends it by a year, so mine runs out when the iPhone 4GS comes out next year. (20th July 2011!)

Mines started working properly atm, but either way plenty of warranty left incase things really start going downhill.

If I get it swapped out this week then the replacement will come with some sort of warranty I would have thought. 3 months or such perhaps.
