Can anyone help me out here... I am using a 290 and an AOC AU3477PQU, when I use the packaged DP cable everything works fine.

When I switch over to a 3m DP cable to fit better on my ergotron arm the picture starts corrupting or failing all over the place.

I have tried two different 3m cables and have also tried these cables in another pc with the same monitor and a 980 and they work fine.

Why will the 290 not power properly :(

DP has some compatibility issues with some cable-monitor-graphics card combinations. If you tried two different cables already I would say it's not going to work with the 290.

The DisplayPort spec only allows for full bandwidth transmission up to 3 metres on a passive cable and a lot of DP cables either exceed that length or have not been tested for full compliance with the spec by VESA. YMMV and anecdotally it seems that a lot of users with DP cables either in excess of 3m or not tested by VESA have no problems, however depending on the individual GPU and monitor tolerances some do.

I'd recommend trying one of the approved DP cables tested by VESA first to rule out the DP cable as the issue. I've got one of the Accell 3m cables listed on the VESA site in my setup and have had no issues at all. They're available in the UK with a bit of googling.
