Hi all

I have 2 monitors at present and am thinking of getting a third a 226bw for a gaming setup. and have a couple of questions, be for doing it in january. like to think ahead. ( monitor not an issue will be 226bw )

  1. With the board i have at the present has 2 pci-e slots one runing at x16 and one at x4. is it worth getting a GTX as primer and puting the GTS in the second slot to run the to be gotten third monitor.
  2. Suplimentry question can you use the second SLI slot as just a graphic card position without the bridge.

or

  • Get the matrox 3head and just have one GTX
  • and which would be the best for game performance.

So much for what seems a simple thing to do. Look forward to hearing your words of wisdom. :)

Many thanks

Smee

Present Machine Setup

2 x 22" samsung 226bw Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) OC 3.2 , 4gb's of 1066mhz ram. 8800gts. 320mb. 3 x 320gbs samsungs. raid 0 (vista prem 64bit, what a shame) MOBO GA-965p-DS3P

I have a GA-965-DS3P with a 8800GTX in the top PCI-E slot, and a 7100GS in the bottom PCI-E slot running 3 monitors fine.

17" LG TFT --- 22" Samsung 225BW --- 17" LG TFT

for some reason I can't get the 7100GS to display 2 monitors at once, so I have 2 screens running off the 8800 and 1 running off the 7100.

I haven't noticed any change in performance when gaming with the 8800 running 1 or 2 screens. I'm not sure if running a card in the bottom PCI-E slot changes the performance on the top slot though, something I never thought of until this thread. :)

I know this is an old post but - I used the serach function and this is the closest thing I can find...

I have a BFG 8800GTS OC2 640MB with one DVI connected to a 20" widescreen LCD at 1680x1050 and TV out to HDTV running at 720p.

There's no way I can get it to work with three monitors, by adding another 17" LCD to the free DVI port?

I've not tried it with nVidia cards, but when an ATI card has a tv connetced to it, it can only drive one VGA/DVI port, basically the TV takes up one output channel. I would assume nVidia are the same.
