I bought a set of inks for my R220 that were like £7 for a whole set of six delivered. I figured if they didn't work then it's only £7 lost.

Predictably enough the printer isn't having any of it, and just thinks there are no carts in there.

I was wondering if anyone knew if I had to make a change within some drivers somewhere to inform the printer that it doesn't in fact have it's own £60 set of inks in there?

If not, I suppose i'll just have to stump up the full price for a proper set :p

the inks have a special chip inside them nowadays all manufacturers do it i had the same problem with a m8s epson standalone photo printer wih the same cartridges u have, evevn my hp photosmart only takes genuine HP inks, the inks in the carts u bought are very cheap and nasty even if u do get them working, best off refilling or footing the bill.

See I was aware of the chips, but I kinda figured that you can't really sell something that you know won't work :/ well at least not as a large business anyway. It was the chip thing that made me wonder if i just needed the drivers to stop looking for official cartridges

Epson software normally tells you they're not genuine every time you print and asks whether you're sure. You not getting anything at all?

Until recently i had the epson R200 and i used to buy sets of cartridges from a local computer fair for £6 a set. These cartridges, brand name pheonix, where excellent. I must have bought 50 sets of these and i only had a problem with one cartridge which showed as empty on the ink monitor so i returned it and was given a whole set + the a replacement for the faulty cartridge. I have also had other brands that i also had no problems with, so unless epson put something into the R220 to check that you are using only epon ink then i think you may have bought some dodgy ink from the internet.

Yesterday I bought a full set of genuine Epson R200 R300 R320 R500 compatable cartridges for £25. Considering I saved £35 from buying at the regular places, I think I did reasonably well - they fully work no problems.

Just noticed these Pheonix brand via google for £16.99 inc delivery for a full set of 6.

For the ultimate in cheap ink get a Continuous Ink System:

They cost around £40 but after that the printing cost per page is virtually zero.

Ta for those, cheers.

I did indeed used to ET on the OcUK server, that all closed shop quite a while ago now, all sort of fell apart when various members of the clan left to go to Uni etc.

When I turn the printer on, the red ink light comes on and when i press it cycles through all the carts as if they were empty :/

That sucks! :( I was never a member, but I used to play on the server quite regularly when you wasnt in competition.

Playing any other 3D Shooters? I'm contemplating purchasing the Battlefield series of games, tried them on a friends over christmas was quite impressed. Vanguard: Saga of Heroes I'm definitly going to buy. :)

I'm not personally playing anything at the moment, not sure about any of the other guys... this connection isn't stable enough for online gaming :(

back on the topic of the ink, the yellow cart seems to work, the other 5 it reckons are empty and need replacing.

The print quality is good. I can't tell the difference in quality between this and genuine Epson carts to be honest. The only difference you'll notice will be in your wallet. You’ll find these and bottles of ink for it on a popular auction site.

I have the R200, and have been using compatibles for quite sometime, never had any problems printing with them, also quality is quite acceptable, for all kinds of printing :)
