Just bought a cheap 2000 Focus and looking for someone who'll do a warranty on it.. most of them seem to not want to touch a 10 yr old car.. anyone know of any that will? or anyone got experience of these warranty companies?

Ta.

Most stop covering at 10 years at the oldest, and those that do cover will only cover a small amount of parts. I think Tesco's cover had one of the best ranges available but wouldn't know what to shove into Google to find it!

having had a very quick poke at Google: http://www.tescofinance.com/personal/finance/motoring/car-warranty-plan/policy-summary.jsp

'Value – Section A

(for cars up to 10 years old/ 100,000 miles, £1,500 claim limit per claim¹, £50 excess)'

The other thing to keep in mind is the small print, it's not in there interests to keep pay outs to a min, to be honest i would only bother on more specialist cars were a blown engine for example can cost thousands of pounds to fix, and thats assuming you use your savy and go to a cheap indi and source the parts from breakers yards, Ebay, second hand etc

Thats were it's worth it IMO, i had a greenflag one thrown in for free a few years ago when i bought my first car an Escort, no they didn't pay out when i needed it, but the dmg was relatively cheap to fix and really the whole waranty was a waste of time on it

When you can change an engine, gearbox and clutch with change from a grand, is it really worth having a warranty on such a car?

Well, it wasn't going going to be brand new parts fitted from a dealer ;)

Saying that, you can buy a new engine for less than £500. Find yourself a decent local garage and you can have a brand new engine in your car for less than a Grand :)

As for having a warranty on the car, it's pointless. The main things that money will be spent on, will be classed as 'wear and tear' items and will not be covered.

after more thought I agree with you all.. I'll just stick some cash every month into a "car fund" and hope nothing goes wrong with it.. from what I've read the Focus is fairly bomb proof and parts are cheap.

Best way unless it's something exotic - that way if nothing goes wrong you've got a nice holiday paid for!
