3rd time lucky...

from time to time i find my computer posts, get into the windows logo where the blue scrolling bar is then the screen goes blank and doesn't go to the logon page!

now its happened about 4 or 5 times over the last few days and it only boots sucessfully on the 3rd time i hit the reset button!

any ideas?

i've checked the boot path in msconfig and that a-ok
made sure the bios is looking for a HDD
and also that it is looking at the HDD with windows on

1 have 2 HDD's 1x 80gb sata (XP) and 1x 500gb sata-2 (MYDOCS)

i don't mean to depress you but that's exactly the symptons i was getting when my old graphics card was in the process of dying a slow death. in the end it was taking me 5 or more attempts just to get into windows.

hi,

i' can get into windows but it takes an age and says is loading rspcc or summats for ages, i have no task bar, no programs open ie IE7 and WMP11 or my virus software.

i have no taskbar and trying to load explorer through ctrl+alt+del doesn't work just.

have been hijacked by a torojan or summats? whats the best por of call? reformat and reinstall windows (my doucments etc. is on another drive)

after giving this symptoms do you still think itsa gfx card issue?

mine is xfx 6800gs stock with a zalman cooler on, never been messed with.

amd 3500+
asus a8n sli dlx
1gb geil ram
80gb sata (boot drive)
500gb (storage)
xfi sound card
6800gs gfx
soundgraph dt 2.4

does this seem like a virus, is there anything i can run from safe mode to solve the problem or does it seem like a fresh install?


thanks for any advice in advance, it s a good job job i've been for a few pints as i'm by far calmer than usual in this situation!!

right just went into safemode and started stripping back each program i have installed then restarting. afte i had got rid of magiciso it booted up fast and straight into the logon page and my logon now has a taskbar and everything!

very strange!

well ive just cooked up 2 jacket potato's beans with chilli sauce and grated cheese so i will update in a sober state tomorrow after running some virus checkers and event id profilers,
