So I currently have the GW2765HT (27", 1440p, 60hz) I have two side monitors but these are cheap £100 TN 1080p monitors (one is even a TV). I currently have the EVGA 1070 FTW edition too.

I'm looking at buying 2 more GW2765HT to have a triple monitor setup. Majority of the time I will only be gaming on the middle screen, however I'd like to be able to use the triple set up for racing games, for example iRacing or Dirt.

I can find little to none information regarding if this is going to be do-able with my 1070. I understand I wont be able to smash it on super ultra or whatever but I'd love to know if its worth doing cause If I have to drop the game down to low then I wont bother.

What kind of impact can I expect? I'd like to know before dropping £600 on 2 more monitors.

PS: I was torn between posted this in Monitors or GPU, which would be best?

If you are talking 3 x 2560x1440, then you are needing to drive eleven million, fifty-nine thousand, two hundred pixels.

For comparison, 4K is eight million, two hundred ninety-four thousand, four hundred.

Not withstanding the overhead on the CPU too, look at the 4k performance of that card of the games you want to play on triple screens then reduce that performance by a third.

For a 1070, I would expect to have to lower quality settings and it would be likely your FPS would be in the lower numbers on current and future titles.

Personally, have you considered 21:9?

It does add more immersion to games and is much better use of power than simply "more pixels" at 16:9.

Thanks for the maths behind it, I can see the sheer amount of stress I'd be putting on my system as a whole. It does make me want to reconsider buying these monitors a lot.

I have considered 21:9 but I use my side monitors just as much as my main. My main gaming is mostly racing or survival and adventure games. I'd say 30% racing, 70% others so my other monitors are quite heavily used for information/maps/guides/wiki/youtube/netflix/whatnot. And with a 21:9 I'd not be able to do this.

Its a tough choice I'm stuck in at the moment. I've considered going back to 1080p but 1440p is just way too beautiful.

Why would you not be able to do that?

A 34" 3440 x 1440 has the same height as a 27" 16:9 :D

This guys channel is rather informative:
