3x Displays on ATI 4890?

I've got an ATI 4890 and am basically looking to use 2x 22" TFTs but I also want a permanent connection to my TV via HDMI, using a DVI>HDMI adaptor.

Could I get away with using a Y splitter or someting simular so I can have the 2x monitors + TV connected all the time?

Obivously that would work but would the card see 3 displays in total or just two, and my TFT's on the Y splitter have the same image?

Cheers

I don't think you get to do this. There is box out there which will do it, but it costs a lot. Can you fit a second graphics card in the box? It'll be a lot easier and cheaper if you can, can't simply use a Y splitter as far as I know

You can get a box which acts as a y splitter, but basically it just adds the resolutions together.

eg you could put the TV on one DVI and the box onto the other, with a resolution of (2xhorizontal)xvertical eg 3360x1050 for two 1680x1050 monitors... basically your PC thinks the two monitors are one, and the box splits the signal.

I'm not sure whether there are boxes which do it properly

Does ur motherboard have a second PCI-e slot? If so, buy a cheap gfx card with HDMI out and ur away - u may even be able to find one for a PCI slot if u look hard enough. If not the option is a PCI Matrox card (about £30) but dont know that this will do HDMI even converted.

The expensive option people are talking about is the Matrox TripleHead2Go which allows triple monitors to be used as one screen. Only really effective if all three are the same resolution and is a focused triple widescreen gaming product really.
