4.1/5.1 Recommendation

Having just bought a new system with an X-fi card, I'm trying to come up with a surround sound solution for my pc. Perhaps you guys have some recommendations?

I'm currently running through my old pc's onboard sound through my 2.0 hifi (NAD C370 amp, mission 780 speakers), which sounds great for playing mp3s. However, it lacks a subwoofer so isn't very meaty in games, plus it's only stereo. Upgrade options I've thought about are...

1. Buying a 5.1 PC surround system. The Logitech Z-5500 seems to be the best choice, but I'm put off by the over-powering bass - I really DO want bass, just not so much that it muddies all my music - as well as reports that the sub needs to be placed several feet space away from your PC due to its magnet. I like the look of Klipsch, but sadly don't appear to sell their Pro Media 5.1 set here in England at all :(

2. Buy a 4.1 system. I've got a home cinema set up downstairs already, so having a 5.1 system for my PC isn't essential as I don't watch many movies on it. A 4.1 surround kit would do the job nicely. Back at uni, I owned for a couple of weeks a Videologic Sirocco Crossfire 4.1 speaker set, which I thought sounded the dogs. Unfortunately the amp stopped working, I sent it back and being a poor student asked for a refund. Sadly, no-one sells this set any more :( Anyone know of any other decent sets that sound close to the crossfires?

3. Buy another 2.1 system, and use my hi-fi as rear speakers. The Acoustic Energy Aego Ms look pretty good - are they? This is quite a tempting option, as then I could add more bass to my setup (through the Acoustic's sub) as well as keep my hi-fi in use for music. However, I'm a bit put off by the whole two sets of volume controls thingy. I guess I could use the X-fi's control panel for that though, right? :p Also, for owners of the Acoustics, which colour looks best? My PC and screen are black, but from the photos the black/white Aego Ms look like they have the edge (the all black set looks kinda dull)

Would really appreciate any opinions...

Thanks in advance!

Love my Z-5500's, you can turn the bass down although it's really not too bad, a good level not drowning out the speakers. I've got about half a foot (maybe a bit more) between the sub and my PC with no adverse effects.

Given it has DD/DTS/DD Pro Logic II decoding optical and coax, as well as your normal 6-channel analogue and line-in (both work with Pro Logic II, too) making it good for games consoles and the like, it's a bit of a bargin in my eyes.

My current setup has my PC in the 6-channel analogue, PS2/XBox/360 in the optical (using a 7 quid optical switcher), DVD player in the coax, GameCube in the Line-in (for Pro Logic II).
