4 3.4GHz EM64T can it be used with windows 32 bit XP

Can I use this Pentium *4 3.4GHz EM64T*,800 MHz FSB ,2MB L2 Cache' for a 32bit instead of 64bit windows XP. Would it work?

Thanks for advice in advance.

Thanks for repying. When I purchased the processor last week from the etailer it didn't state that it was a 64bit. I have never used the 64bit operating system so I don't know what it is like. Would the CPU be used to it's full potential if it ran on a 32bit. (does it freeze, hang etc on XP 32bit). Also, can you tell me what you mean by PIV?

Thanks again.

Hello at work here

firstly, i use a core2duo E6600 (which is a 64bit cpu) on xp32bit, and there is absolutely no problem at all. its just at the moment i refuse to move to a 64bit vista (or vista entirely for that matter).

so yes the p4 will work perfectly fine , and even if it was 64bit xp, you wouldnt notice much/any difference IMHO

Many thanks for your help. Just worried when spending money and you are not sure what you have bought!!

Thanks again.

The cpu just includes x64 extentions, but also has all the normall 32 bit extentions ( mmx, SSE1,SSE2,SSE3) , so it will run 32 bit os no different from a cpu that doesnt have EM64T.
