I'm completely clueless - there is an 8 plug and a 24 plug on my MOBO but my PSU has 4+4 and 20+4 pins:confused:
How does this work and how do I connect them. If I can chose, which one is best?
I have the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R MOBO Socket 1366 ATX.

As said before plug them both in as they are required and you won't even get power without the 20+4 pin connected.

You can plug a single 4-pin into the 8-pin but its always best to plug in two 4-pins if you have them (not including the one from the 20+4) or a single 8-pin to get the best out of it .

Thanks - I connected the 4+4 and the 20+4 pins to respective plugs...
I then powered my new build and the fans kicked in but there was an orange light inside the case. Nothing happened on screen, no BIOS nothing.
I could not shut it down with the on button so I just switched off the PSU.
Tried again and the fans kicked in again but it shut off by itself.
Now whenever I power it on there is a yellow light that blinks one time:(

All necessary power cables connected to graphics card? Sometimes it's a 6-pin (or two) and sometimes it's an 8-pin (or two.)

Do you have a graphics card? :D

All joking aside, how well do you know the rest of your system? If you're confused with the standard 20+4 and 4+4 connectors, how confident are you that you've connected everything else correctly? Things that spring to mind are correct seating of CPU, connection of heatsink/fan - many, many potential pitfalls.

I hope this doesn't sound condescending - it's certainly not intended to be. :)

No it's not condescending:)

I had the memory sticks placed as 1,3,5 so I switched them to 2,4,6 and all was fine:D
