I hit 4.7 but it took too much voltage, 1.45 so I want to run 4.5 24/7 but when I lower my V core to 1.39 prime is not stable :(. Ive been running prime for over an hour now and everything seems ok but is there anyway I can get the Vcore down a little with changing other settings?, heres roughly what ive got the now...

CPU ratio settings Auto
BCLK Freq 215
PCIE Freq 100
DRAM voltage ? forget lol :P

CPU Vcore 1.4000
CPU PLL voltage 1.88
QPI/DRAM core voltage 1.35000
IOH Voltage 1.20
ICH Voltage 1.50
ICH voltage 1.20
ICH PCIE voltage 1.50
DRAM bus voltage 1.64

C1E or CIE Disabled
HT disabled (not stable if enabled) IS this ok off?
Speedstep Enabled

As you can see im a noob at overclocking :( and its my first time so can any pros out there help me out?

Thanks :D

I assume this is an i7-2600K? Why would you buy it if you don't want HyperThreading? Running at 4.4 GHz with HT enabled will outperform 4.5 GHz without HT in most cases, by a long way sometimes.

OcUK and Intel do not recommend a VCore of above 1.38 V so I would say try 4.4 GHz with HT enabled at 1.38 V and see if that's stable.

Hmm kl I will maby try that :D

Im running an i7 920

Forgot to say max temps touched 63 C on one core when running prime.

Anyone els have any other ideas?

As said above stick HT back on and start again, HT is useful and should be enabled, it will likely mean you need more voltage clock for clock and increase load temps though.

4.7 GHz with an i7 920?? Crazy chip.

HT will increase temps definitely but it's worth it and you have a low temps anyway. I don't know what the maximum recommended voltage for the i7 920 is though, someone else will have to help you out there.

Ive read up that i only need HT on if your doing video codeing ect... and it just makes temps hotter ? :( im not sure :P

EDIT: Whats the max voltages you guys recommend for an i7 chip? 24/7? i want it to atleast last 3-4 years.

Some games will actually improve by taking HT off. This will also reduce a lot of lag/stuttering.

Benchmarks will deffo suffer without HT enabled.
Encoding and multithreaded apps will also suffer.

Personally I would prefer 4.2 with HT on than 4.5 with it off but then I use my pc for lots of different apps.

I mostly use my pc for gamming so its better with it off?

Is there any way to tweek this setting to try and get the v core down ? raising/lowering somthing els?

What temps are you getting now? Water should be able to handle 4.5. With mine running at 4.5 I was getting around 65-70 on high end water which is acceptable. Anything below 80 is ok tbh but I wouldn't feel realy comfortable over 80.

The thing you should consider is games will not put your cpu under as much pressure as prime/linx so won't run anywhere near as hot. You can perhaps knock at least 10c of your load temps for gaming.

Ive downclocked the cpu to 4.2 GHz @ 1.31 v core (stable so far) and turned HT on so this makes it faster than 4.5 GHz with HT off?.

Should be more than enough for gaming, i run my i7 at 4ghz, ht enabled, my 470's are only clocked at 751/1502/1700 but i find theese settings to be good for any game im playing.

Ok im now down to 1.3 v core and 1.3 QPI @ 4.2 GHz HT on, prime95 stable for an hour so far :D I might try and go for 4.8 when I (maby) get MB blocks and learn about everything in the BIOS.
