Hey everyone

Need some help with overclocking my system

I currently have a Athlon 4.6Ghz Dual Core X2 @ 2412

Multiplier = 12 and FSB = 200mhz

Voltage = 1.3

All the above are stock settings, whenever i set fsb to 220mhz to give a 2.6Ghz total

it can run windows, but then internet explorer closes down and get the odd blue death screen

and if i try going any higher than 220, i get blue death screen

this is a new system and formatted, works fine at stock speeds

has very good cooling! have tried increasing voltage but still no luck.

I have:
1 X 1GB DDR 400
2 X 512MB DDR 400

When i have all these 3 in system it runs at 2GB 333 DDR for some reason.

so ive changed the memory to 400 manually in bios

Even if i leave the memory at DDR 333, i still have no luck even getting a stable 20mhz fsb increase

please someone tell me where im going wrong?

surely 20mhz fsb increase should be stable??
 
most likely what you need to do is set the HTT multiplier down from 5* to 4* in BIOS

try that and if its still unstable post again :)

by the way you have an athlon 4600+ this does not mean 4.6ghz, it is just a pr rating and has no correlation with actual cpu speed
 
yes i know :(

i just keep forgetting to put 4600+ :o

ill try the 4ht when get home

if it dosent work what is ** next advice?

a word of advice regarding your signature size... ;)

A signature may contain one or more images but they must fit within a box with maximum dimensions of 400 x 75 pixels (width x height) and with a maximum (combined) file size of 20k. Images containing mostly very large words or animated .gifs will not be permitted. You may also add 1 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text directly above or underneath the image with no spaces inbetween image and text. If no images are used then up to 4 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text is permitted. Do not pad out your text lines with blanks lines. A line of text is defined as having a maximum length of 400 pixels

well would agree to lower the htt to 4x or 3x (makes about 1% difference in real terms, so will get a better gain if it allows u a higher clock). Also could be to do with the 3 sets of ram u have there, not sure how well they will overclock together, so maybe run mem test x86, search for it as lots of times has been said. good luck.
 
would say using 3 sticks of ram would cause u probs when overclocking, try with just the 2 x 512 sticks, bet u get a better oc :) g/l

try u ram on a 166 divider & drop u htt to 3x, this will give u room 2 play with when increasing cpu speed, when this fails, add slight volt increase for the cpu, retry & c if it stable.
 
okay im gona drop HT to x3 and ddr to 333

i really cant go to 1GB from 2GB and dont have money this month to get another 2 x 512

will have to try definately with x3 HT and 166 thanks!
 
yea was thinking that

but the current 512mb sticks are dual channel

and my other 1GB is just OEM

will another 1GB same type OEM run in dual channel?
 
Hey guys,

i tried overclocking lastnite using the steps you provided,

my max i can get stable is 2.6ghz ( 220 x 12 )

is there a way to get x13? my bios dosent give option higher than 12

and anything from like 225 x 12 and higher dosent work

and then either blue screen or resets itself to 194 x 12

increased voltage and HT down to x 3 and tried x 4

the motherboard = NF4ST-A9, could this be the reason im gettign such terrible results?

have you tried increasing voltage on the ram and slacking its timings? although this can sometimes reduce overall performance. you should run couple of benchmarks to see any performance loss.
 
ive changed it from 333 but isnt 400 better?

and do i need to change other things in memory part?

and cpu volt was increased to 1.45

and i havent touched the memory volt, should i change? and what 2?
 
The reason that you're only able to run at 333MHz on your memory and not 400MHz is because the memory controller (which is on the CPU) struggles when more than 2 sticks are used.
With that in mind I'd suspect that more voltage to the memory is unlikely to help, however it might and you have nothing to lose if you try. Anything up to 2.8 volts on the memory and you'll still be safe. I've not heard of any DDR memory having problems with up to 2.8 volts.

Have you checked the memory timings? You may be able to get a higher FSB/HTT if you drop your memory timings down.
If they're not already then try

CAS / tCL. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .3
RAS to CAS delay / tRCD . . . . . 4
Row Precharge / tRP . . . . . . . . 4
Min RAS Active Time / tRAS . . . 7 or 8

You can also set the command rate to disabled / 2T timings.
This last one can have a fair impact on memory performance (the others much less) but more speed can compensate for that.


CPU volts should be safe up to 1.5 provided the temperature doesn't get too hot.

As for your multiplier, you'll be limited to 12 as Athlon64 processors only allow you to decrease the multiplier. 12 is the default multi for your chip so that's the maximum you're allowed to use. I'm stuck with a maximum of 10 :(

Edit - 2.6Ghz isn't a bad clock at all, I'm only 100MHz ahead of you at 2.7GHz with my Opteron 170 which is supposed to be a good clocker.
