Noticed the power socket on the top edge of motherboards has changed, I think my AMD 870 has a 4 pin, the X58 has a 8 pin. One I'm looking at has a 8+4 and another one has 8+8

My PSU does have enough outputs but what if you don't populate all of them? ie can you get away with not connecting them all up?

Just checked my psu has a eight pin and the motherboard that is arriving has a eight in and four pin CPU area connectors.

So won't be able to connect the additional 4 pin

That has 1 x 8 pin eps
Quite possible you won't need the 4 pin
Would have to know the motherboard/read the board manual
There's also probably some sort of adapter
To go from whatever other connectors you have available
To convert it to the 4 pin
I definitely have a few of those somewhere that
Convert things to an 8 pin eps
Though never actually used any of them

I think I have a 4 pin somewhere, molex to 4 pin possibly?

Motherboard is this

From reading around 8 pin is fine, I'd only need the extra four pin for very power hungry CPU and when overclocking like mad
