4 Better Than 2?

I'm looking to upgrade to 16GB of memory is it better to get 2 8GB or 4 4GB?

16gb in either configuration will place more strain on the memory controller, though 2x 8gb will be the lesser of two evils.

Obviously if you're using a X79 motherboard then it supports Quad-channel memory so you'd be better off with 4 x 4GB.

2 x 8 GB for when you upgrade to 32 GB

as above 2 x 8gb then you can upgrade to 32gb if you board will accept it

I would agree with the others. If your running a newer board (X79) when you get another 2x8 its going to be a breeze for your memory controller.

I was on 16gb, 4x2, ive just sold 8gb of it. There was no difference whatsoever. 8gb is plenty for most people i guess.
