With Intel's pricing - that isnt going to be cheap by any means

Won the lottery recently,.or hoping to before release?

That chip will be, but I hardly think you can criticise Intel's pricing for conroe in general....

The E6700 is shown in benchmarks to be a match for the AMD FX-62... The 6700 costs £411 inc vat here. The FX-62 costs £728 inc vat....

Who is expensive again?

I'm sure the E6600 was on par with the FX62

Even then it's a lot better in terms of value:performance ratio.

Eh? January release expected, AMD have nothing for atleast a 6 months if not a year, Intel really have kicked some backside with Conroe.

CR.

im sorry but have you some information about AMD's move to 65nm that none of us have?
latest info says AMD are moving to 65nm before the end of the year (4/5months from Conroe release) with some revisions to the core... then K8L in Q1 07. My guess is that if they are losing some serious market share to Conroe, then K8L is gonna be bought forward (if they can) to as soon as the 65nm tech is ready. As it is, thats less than 6months and not even close to being a year away.

Conroe looks great though, if AMD don't have something to compete out when i buy then i'll be going Intel.

Ok I should have said "premium" chips in my original post

I think its a little unfair to compare a last gen chip in cost to one of these new gen ones - of course the fab process etc is going to cost more.

I also believe AMD are about to introduce a huge price drop so compare prices then and see what difference there is

edit ...also look at the difference in standard price of the AMD compared to the Intel mobo's - usually AMD are quite a bit cheaper

The rumoured price drop doesn't include the FX series chips, and none of the standard X2 chips come close....

The bottom line is that AMD haven't been playing the 'Cheap' chipmaker for a while, their prices recently haven't been much different to Intels up until the last few weeks, and at the top end there's very little in it for their top of the line chips.

This "Intel are unnecessarily expensive" stuff is about 3 years out of date.
