Hi guys

Ive just bought another 2 GB of this:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-058-GL

to go with the 2GB I already own.

I had been running the 2GB I had fine for almost a month now at the rated speed of 4-4-4-12 2T @ 2.1v @ DDR2800 (376mhz in cpuz).

Its running on an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe with an Athlon 64+ 6000 X2.

My problem is when I added the extra 2GB I started getting BSOD's. So I ran memtest overnight and it found 1 error. Ive now tried upping the voltage to 2.2v @ 4-4-4-12 and trying to run memtest again. Overclockers say its rated between 1.9-2.3v but on the memory chips it says 2.1v. Ive tried reseating the chips again just to make sure its not that. If memtest fails again is there anything else I could try? Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers guys :)

You try lowering the timings slightly as using 4 sicks of memory is quite a strain on the mem controller so you might not get the rated timings

I tried upping the voltage to 2.2v since the memory was rated up to 2.3v. I also reseated the ram and ran memtest for 4 hours with no errors. Booted into Windows fine. I then tried setting the TRC to 16 (Auto is 24) that made the same BSOD return. Seems it needed a little more juice with 4 sticks in. Does running 4 sticks damage the memory controller? Also how about 2.2v will that eventually damage the ram? :(

These are the specs from Geils site:

http://www.geilusa.com/products/showSpec/id/65
PC2-6400 DDR2 800MHz, CAS 4-4-4-12
2GB Dual Channel Kit (1GB X 2) Sku# GX22GB6400UDC
GeIL OC Certified FBGA 64MB X 8 or 128MB x 8 DDR2 Chips
Working Voltage : 1.9-2.3V
240pin, Un-buffered DDR2 DIMM
Metallic Racing Orange Heat Spreader
Retail Package
Life Time Warranty

Does the working voltage part means its safe to run at 2.2v?

Plus whats everyones opinion on memory coolers?

Mine is unstable at 2.1v and stable at 2.0 volts. No idea why.

Thats bizzare! Mines running stable at 2.0v 4-4-4-12 2T with 4 sticks yet at 2.1 it errors same as yours! Cheers for that anyway mate its much better running it at 2.0 rather than 2.2 :D

Spoke too soon it threw another BSOD at me :( Im unsure as to what to set TRC to setting it to 16 doesnt work, just wondering what it should be set to for this ram?

Porklord....

I did just the same thing a month or two back....and on my borad with 4Gb in it wont run at 4,4,4,12 regardless of the speed. Change it to 4,4,4,15....and I think that will work for you. You will suffer vitually no performance loss eighther. My 4Gb Geil is running at 438x2 with 2.1 at the moment I think with 4,4,4,15.

I never ran memtest but primed for 6 hours with Q6600 at 3.5Ghz...all good. At 4,4,4,12 Prime would fail in the first minute even at 2.3V..any speed.

I ran memtest with all 4 sticks at 4-4-4-12 2.0v and everything else on auto. It ran memtest for 12 hours with 0 errors. Tried reinstalling Vista x64 and during the installation rebooted and said "windows did not shut down properly" so took out 2 sticks installed it fine with just the 2. Installed the other 2 booted it up and got a Stop 0000007xe BSOD 10 mins after windows loaded. Ive tried running memtest with just each stick one at a time and it gave 0 errors on each stick. I also tried 4-4-4-15 with no luck & tried raising the chipset voltage. Nothing seems to get it stable :( works fine with 2 gigs i dont get it

Hmmm I wonder, my motherboard has the latest bios 1102 which happens to be a beta. I wonder if flashing it back to 3307 (I think the latest one is) will fix this

Well the instructions worked. Looks like the BSOD's were a problem with Vista. Running fine now at 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v. :)
