4 GB Memory in Windows.

Hello fothsn, your graphics card doesn’t really have anything to do with - why Windows Vista is only recognising 3GB of RAM instead of 4GB.

If there is a memory remapping option in the BIOS, make sure that it is enabled. If there isn't, have you got the latest BIOS for your motherboard? :)
but i don't think its the memory remapping problem because its recognising 4gb but its only using 2.94gb... i had similar problem that my promise raid controller enabled it took my memory down to 3.25gb... but when i press space while post i get full 4gb back..

Hello gareth170, I see what you are saying and am honestly quite baffled.

All though, if fothsn has Service Pack 1 installed which changes the way that Windows Vista reports the amount of physical memory installed in a system - even though Windows Vista is reporting 4GB of physical memory due to Service Pack 1 installed, it is only actually recognising and utilising 3GB of physical memory. :)

well simple way to check is at the post does it say 4gb or 3gb, if it says 3gb then it'll be memory remapping problem, if it says 4gb then it's another problem..

Thanks for the help guys :) Have enabled memory mapping in the Bios and it now boots and says 4094Mb of ram before it was 3006, also windows now sees the correct and full memory amount :D

But a friend of mine insists that most of processors now a days have the EMT64 and something about PAE?

Hello Teki187, Physical Address Extension (PAE) does indeed allow a 32-bit Operating System to address more than 4GB of RAM, given the appropriate Operating System support though i.e Windows Server editions.
