4 hours to Install XP on laptop?

Anyone seen issues like this before?

Ive noticed with some odd Laptops doesnt matter of spec, I had a turion 64 laptop with 1gig and it took 4 hours to load the Vista beta1, yet WinXP took an hour.

I only ask since I have a m8s Compaq P4 2.5/512meg laptop and well its taken 4 hours just to get to 15 minutes screen.....

No bsods or anything, do you reckon its a possible Hdd or memory fault?

Probably just the HDD, if its 2400rpm or something silly with low transfer speeds then it will take forever.

I replace my 2400rpm 40gb Acer stock Hitachi with a 80gb 5400rpm WD Scorpio and it made the laptop 10x better.

wow didnt even realise they made hdds that slow yeah really does feel like the hdd is super slow been stuck on 7 minutes past 40 minutes now lol

Think ill check out the hdd speed afterwards, cheers

I have an 800rpm hard drive, and a broken 400rpm hard drive, although they are ancient to say the least, one I think is a 5" jobbie.

lol nice, I just gave up in the end it took literally 1:45 hours and minutes from going to 7 minutes to 5 minutes/gonna try a different 2.5 HDD and check his memory also out later on!
