4 pin CPU to 8 pin

So im getting a new motherboard for my PC, its an asrock extreme3 R2 870 AM3+. I noticed on pics that it has an 8pin cpu connector but my current board is only using a 4pin and my PSU doesnt have an 8pin connector. Ive just purchased an 8pin to 4pin connector and I just want to know if this will work ok, i dont wana damage anything

The 4 pin works in the 8 pin connector. The 8 pin is just there to help balance the load between the wires to my knowledge.

Which adapter did you buy?

If your PSU dont support the ESP12v 8 pin then dont bother with an adapter.
