4 Pin Fan - Want to use as 3 Pin

Hello,

I currently have a four pin fan plugged in to my CPU Fan socket. I would like to change this to a three pin operation without buying a new fan.

Is this possible? Can I just cut one of the wires?

It should work if you plug the three correct pins in.

It'll just run at 100% as the fourth wire is just a speed control wire so no signal means 100% speed if it works as I think it does.

As above, ASUS boards cannot control 3 pin fans via the CPU fan header so it will run at full speed (the Chassis fan headers on ASUS boards will control 3 pin fine).
