Hi Guys.

Need some advice on a fan please.

I have this board:

The header for sysfan2 is a 4-pin connector. I need a 92mm fan that will connect to it. Options seem limited. This fan is the obvious choice:

... but I'm a little unclear how PWM works. I can't find much info, but one article seemed to suggest that if both the board and the fan operate PWM, the fan will be permanently stuck at full speed.

So will that fan work OK with my board, with the bios controlling the speed?

Cheers for any advice. :)

Yes it will work fine, and yes it is the BIOS and CPU temperature sensors that controls the fan speed. You can set the options yourself.

With PWM enabled and with a PWM featured fan, basically the hotter your CPU is, the faster the fan will spin (Anywhere up to it's maximum speed). Non-loading or Idle mode, then the fan should be spinning just slighty slower and hence more quieter.

EDIT - Ahh I just realised you will be using the fan for SysFan2 header and not CPU, my mistake. Same principle works though. Seeing as you are using a Gigabyte board, you can go into the PC Hardware Monitor area of the BIOS and just check the appropriate header settings for the fan. The fan speed will change automatically at will dpending on the temperatures inside your case.
